Hi all!
Today I will be talking about one of the final steps I took before putting all the parts of my ship together. From my design sketches, the ship had some coverage on the top. One solid cover that would be made out of metal that would cover the middle part of the ship and the rest would be made out of clothes. I made reference from that part from this picture I found online when thinking about the design of my ship.
In order to create the covers I basically took a cylinder and split it in half. Then I adjusted the width and height so that it would have the shape I wanted for my boat. This took a little bit of time since each one had a different size and position. For the front and back ends of the ship, I took a sphere and split it in half, then I sliced it again so that it would be easier for me to create a more curved surface.
Also, I decided to create a little border for the top of the ship since it was not very defined after smoothing it. To make it, I simply duplicated the top part of the ship and used Maya’s mesh tools to close it up! With it everything was ready to go 😀
Putting it together!
For this part, I parented the little parts to the wings and then parented the wings to other parts that would be attached to the boat. I have not actually parented anything to the boat yet because if I do I won’t be able to add materials to it, which will be the following step. Today we learned about Mudbox, and I hope that I get to use it for this assignment although I do not see it happening because of all the other assignments I am working on at the moment. However, I have found beautiful textures and I will be adding them into my ship to be completed and beautiful! This is how the ship looks now from different angles:
Alright! I hope you guys like it as much as I do! I’m really excited to see the final results after I add the textures and materials in 😀
Cheers!
